if i only had a brain

NPR tonight had a series of interviews with voters in Louisville KY. The reason these people were interviewed was that they had voted for Bush twice and were now unhappy with his performance. I think the interviews will continue throughout the week in different cities that are meant to represent the "heartland".

One of the interviewees stated that she voted for the president (twice) because of his strong moral character. Her evidence of this strong morale character was that he hasnt cheated on his wife (that we know of).

He hasnt cheated on his wife.

You are asked to hire a person for the most important, most powerful job in the entire world. Your one criteria for this hiring decision is whether or not the person cheated on their spouse (that you know of). OMFG!

This woman and the millions of people like her are complete idiots and they deserve what they get. (Sadly, i get what they get too.) Moreover, these voters are an example of why we have a representative government; "the people" need someone with a brain to make decisions for them because they are too ignorant or too stupid to do it themselves. It's just a shame those representatives (with a brain) are so often hypocrites, self-serving and on the take.

Sorry for the rant about "these people" but those interviews were just too much, the last straw so to speak.

It makes me think of the saying (which the president himself bungled): fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Everything about this president and his performance was obvious before the election, particularly the 2004 election.

There are no surprises here, people. If you are surprised, you werent paying attention. Let me break it down for you:

  • This president has taken more vacation than any president in history (he works less than a 32hr/week Frenchman),
  • he ran on a Republican "small government; it's your money" campaign and then ran up the largest federal deficits in history while cutting taxes for the wealthiest companies and individuals (I bought a modest hotel with my $300),
  • he dropped the ball on Al Qaeda in 2000 (because it was a Clinton thing) and then wrapped himself in the mantle of a "war on terror" instead of asking hard questions about why 9/11 happened in the first place,
  • he started the first unprovoked invasion of a sovereign nation in the last 100 years (about which he has gotten every single thing wrong from WMDs to "liberators in the street"),
  • he talks about God regularly but also champions the use of torture and has put great effort into legal loopholes that allow him to imprison people indefinitely without trial or charge
  • he is constantly surrounded by handlers and never makes an unscripted speech in public with sample of real citizens and when he does speak, it is barely English,
  • which might actually help him when the "steadfast" president flip-flops on issues like firing "anyone involved" with the Valerie Plame issue.

Now that is quite a resume! (And I didn't even mention that time he passed out on a pretzel while watching football and that time he crashed/fell off his own bicycle. Two moves that would impress Barney Fife and agent Maxwell Smart.)

All of that and people voted for him TWICE because...? he hasn't cheated on his wife (that we know of).

This is not a "perfect storm" as the interviewee put it. The president is not an unlucky victim. The president is an example of American Heartland sayings like "people get what they deserve" and "you made your own bed, now lie in it". In fact, he exemplifies those sayings for himself and for us, the dumbass voters who thought a draft-dodging Ivy-Leaguer would make a better Commander in Chief than an actual veteran, Democrat (Kerry) or Republican (McCain).

So enjoy your tax cuts and hold on to your shock and surprise. Get ready for 3 more years, 3 more years! 3 more years of watching the rich get richer and the rest of us footing the bill.
