How much are you willing to pay to stop illegal immigrants?

Forget walls and border patrols and national guardsmen. The solution to stopping illegal immigrants is to remove the jobs they come here to get. Period.

These poor people dont risk their lives to come here for our unaffordable health care or our non-existant retirement benefits - they come here for the American dream: work hard and earn a buck to help your family live a better life.

If the IRS and the social security administration got together and really checked the payrolls of American companies (and wealthy individuals who cant seem to stay away from those illegal servants and nanny's), they could prevent companies from hiring illegal workers. If the government built an enforceable system of worker identification and fined businesses heavily for hiring illegals, illegal immigration would end within a year.

And prices would rise.

Are you prepared to pay more for your Big Mac, for house cleaning, for gardening, and for food at the grocery store? How much more?

Whether there 11 million illegals or more, our entire economic system is based on illegals who do the work and keep prices low. Forget productivity gains due to computers; prices have been kept low because wages are kept low due to competition from people who will work at almost any price.

Our businesses exploit these people and we generally ignore them except when politicians want to rabble rouse for quick votes. You keep hearing that these illegals are using up all our social services, but you never hear politicians admitting that illegals pay $50B per year into our retirement system which they will never claim.

The reason politicians want to spend our dear tax dollars on walls and guards is because they know those things wont stop illegals. Sure, it looks like we are working hard to stop illegals but as long as the jobs are here, nothing will change except more rich smugglers and more dead bodies in the desert.

We already fill out all that paperwork when you start a job. All that remains is building a computer system that actually USES that data to verify workers. And I doubt it will ever happen. It's much easier to wave the flag and blame the poor, especially since they dont have the legal right to tell their own side of the story.
