January 2011 Wrap up

Xmas is over and its back to work for everyone. Its dreary and cold outside. A great time for gaming. Unfortunately the house is still under construction, I dont have my TV room at the moment, so things are just a little out of sync. I still got to do some good gaming this month.

Finished

This month I finally finished Red Dead Redemption (PS3) and Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising (PC).

Playing

I started playing Assassin's Creed 2 (xbox); Had fun with it and about the time I completely restored my villa, I got bored. I got tired of killing guys with a knife; not a game I want to play in front of my daughter. She liked the climbing but after a while I just got tired of the killing. Maybe I will come back to it.

I also started playing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (PS3). I am not really a car game guy but after a few tries, I started to get into the mood. None of my friends are playing though so I havent seen any multi-playing action. This is a game I have no problem setting aside and then playing for an hour once in a while. Looks great. Fun to drive.

This month I also started playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC). I heard great things about the multiplayer action but I have yet to try it. Instead I played single player campaign and after a few hours, I got really bored with it. Kind of the same thing I have played for years. Lots of guns, shoot guys in the head, move forward. Not sure what separates a good FPS from a lame one (probably story) but this one bored me. I think I am done with it.

Another PC game I got going was Star Wars Republic Commando. This is an old game which I heard good things about and picked up on Steam. I dont know how I missed it back in the day but I am really liking it and its squad action. The graphics are pretty rough though and I had to use Windows XP to get it to play but a good purchase.

The last thing I played this month was Puzzle Quest on my PSP. With no TV room, I have been spending a lot of time in the living room on a chair with my PSP rockin' the PQ.

Purchased

This month I made two purchases: Bayonetta (xbox) and Demon Souls (PS3). Both are now under $20 on Amazon and both are now sitting on the table waiting for my attention.

Buzz

The buzz this month was mostly about playing old games people missed in 2010.

By the last week of January, folks were talking about new hardware: the Nintendo 3DS (not interested) and the Sony NGP (could be cool).

There were two releases this month. DC Universe the MMORPG; I had a great time with City of Heroes but no interest for me here; no to MMO's and DC is lame. The other release is Little Big Planet 2. LBP2 is not my kind of game but I am excited about it an will buy it. I just with my daughter was about a year older to play it with. At 4 going on 5, I think she is just too small to enjoy it.

And that was January 2011
